HOMEWORK Q1 CUFFS

Yr 11 EXAM PREP

PREP Analyse how camerawork is used in the extract to create meaning. Refer to at least two examples from the extract in your answer.

Worth 4 marks. Write half a side of A4. (in the exam: tonight, you write on your blog)

In Cuffs tension is created through the camerawork between characters. On one occasion the Chiefs son Jake has been presented a job as a police officer, through out the episode the camera work used helps us see that Ryan doesn't agree with his colleague and how he got the job , this is presented with a focus pull of Jake as Ryan says 'we don't care what peoples parents do'. This shows tension in this scene and shows us the emotions of Jake and the humiliation he is feeling in this moment.

One other example is when the police are in the car chase, there are multiple different examples of camerawork such as a birds eye view shot it is used to present to the audience the surroundings and where they are and also shows the car chase and the speed of the action. They also use close up shots to show the characters feelings and so the audience can really feel the emotions and relate building tension and suspense.  Lastly another example of camerawork use is to create realism in the show, this occurs when the 4 police officers are having their lunch break we see a shot reverse shot this is used to create meaning and realism. The audience get to connect with the characters in this scene and see how they react to certain statements.

CUFFS EXAM Q. 3 is worth 15 marks.

3.  In this question you will be rewarded for drawing together elements from your full course of study, including different areas of the theoretical framework and media contexts.

How far does the extract try to create a sense that it is portraying 'real life'?

  • In your answer you should: analyse aspects of the extract giving detailed examples
  • judge how far these aspects create a sense of watching 'real life'
The show is very good at making it seem like a real life situation making the viewer feel as if they are in the show. For example they use naturalistic locations , the shopping centre , the costumes of the people around are very realistic and are the same as everyday policemen uniform. They also have the kids dressing very casually in their uniforms giving it the realistic view of normal school children in real life. They also use lighting to make it look real life it shows us a very natural lighting just like real life, it is not romantic or dramatic which imply realistic ideas.

The use of camera angles are very good as well creating realism in the scenes. There is quite a lot of use different camera angles for example shot reverse shot, they use these in conversations turning to the Chief constable and Jo when they are having a conversation making us feel as if we are there in the situation watching it happen.

The dark blue bold writing shows us the important things and what the key subject is. They use burgundy colours on the different headings, highlighting each new story to show the importance and what people would most likely want to read. The Online Observer also put other key information in orange, for example they put brands and famous people in the bright orange, this could be for sponsorship and to gain the readers attention.
The Observer is in a big white bold writing which is quite modern, they use San Serif text which gives it a modern feel and makes it match the online style.
The font they use on this news makes it look serious and important. They put the more important stories at the top with bigger and bolder white writing. The layout of the paper is very neat and put together everything is in line and matches. This shows us that the observer is a serious newspaper. The show different views on this newspaper and look at different cultures and the struggles that other people are going through, so that lots of people can relate to the newspaper. They are an unbiased newspaper who don't just focus on one view.

DOLL MOVIE

We made a short horror film about a girl and her doll having a very strong bond which becomes very unhealthy. It was a creative an interesting idea.

What Went Well -

We did some really good shots that worked really well and that fit together very nicely. The ideas were original and simple which makes it easier to cut and edit. With some really good sound effects and music it could turn into a really good short film.

Things to improve -

The camera kept going out of focus making it harder for us to film and means we have more to edit out as you see mid shot the camera trying to focus. Sometimes we could have gone from better angles.

EXAM QUESTION

Exam question: Analyse how genre codes have been used in The Lego Movie poster campaign to appeal to a family audience. (10 marks) Write the equivalent of a page and a half A4 in the exam. This is a major question.

Image result for the lego movie
The lego movie is very effective to appeal to a family because it relates to a variety of people of different ages.

It appeals to different ages through the different characters on the poster, there are different superheros that have been combined with the Lego characters this will engage older people as they saw these characters as they grew up and will want to see a different version of them now.
By the expression in Emmit's face shows us that its going to be an exciting movie, it also has a comedic sense to it , showing us its going to be funny, this would appeal to younger people more. In the background there is big cranes and Doctor Business towering over them showing that there is a lot of action. In the poster there are many different characters which all have different facial expressions as they run away, this means each family member can relate to someone.
The poster also has a relatable aspect to it they have added in things to the poster to relate to people who build Lego, the Lego movie logo is made out of Lego showing us  the brand and it is being held up by a crane which people who build lego might relate to. The crane also tells us that the movie will be about building or have something to do with it.

The creators made other posters with the separate characters on them this was done to attract different generations to the movie. Morgan Freeman is known mainly by an older generation as well as a few younger people. He has a very Holy look to him in the movie and the poster he almost looks like what most people envision God to look like, this could be good for Religious people as it may attract them. He is also a very wise man and seen as he knows everything, adults may relate to this.

Image result for wyld fire poster lego movieThe poster of WyldStyle would attract to girls as she is a very confident, sassy , young girl who has a lot of power. This would attract young girls as they might look up to her. The poster shows us she is standing on a train track and that there is a train coming from behind her which shows us there is going to be action and that she is apart of it.

Chris Pratt is a very well known Actor which would attract some people towards the movie to see more of his work. I think teenagers and some adults would be able to relate as he is a character who makes a lot of mistakes in the movie and gets sad sometimes as he feels as if he is doing things wrong but also learning from mistakes, this could relate to teenagers. Although he has an everyday job which adults may relate to and relate to how he works, or reacts to things at work.

Will Ferrell is an very famous and comedic actor that lots of different ages love, it shows us that the movie will be humorous as he is normally a very funny character in movies.
