How far does the extract try to create a sense that it is portraying 'real life'?

  • In your answer you should: analyse aspects of the extract giving detailed examples
  • judge how far these aspects create a sense of watching 'real life'
The show is very good at making it seem like a real life situation making the viewer feel as if they are in the show. For example they use naturalistic locations , the shopping centre , the costumes of the people around are very realistic and are the same as everyday policemen uniform. They also have the kids dressing very casually in their uniforms giving it the realistic view of normal school children in real life. They also use lighting to make it look real life it shows us a very natural lighting just like real life, it is not romantic or dramatic which imply realistic ideas.

The use of camera angles are very good as well creating realism in the scenes. There is quite a lot of use different camera angles for example shot reverse shot, they use these in conversations turning to the Chief constable and Jo when they are having a conversation making us feel as if we are there in the situation watching it happen.
